Texas Woman Found Dead in Front Yard With Several 'Animal Related' Injuries

Police in Texas are investigating after a 59-year-old woman was found dead on Sunday with what appeared to be "animal-related" injuries, authorities say.

Deputies responded to a residence in a rural area of Anahuac, close to the 4000 block of State Highway 61, yesterday morning after receiving a 911 call about a body discovered in the front yard of a home, the Chambers County Sheriff's Office said in a media release.

The preliminary investigation named the deceased victim as Christine Rollins, 59, of Liberty, according to local sheriff Brian Hawthorne, ABC13 reported.

Deputies said Rollins was helping to care for an elderly couple who live at the rural home. An 84-year-old homeowner, who was not named in the report, found the body outside between a car and the front door after the caretaker didn't show up at the usual time.

Deputies who arrived at the scene found Rollins deceased with multiple injuries to her body. "It appears that [the victim] has an injury to her head that is consistent with a fall but she also has numerous injuries that appear to be animal related," police said, without elaborating.

The county justice has ordered an inquest into the death and an autopsy will now be conducted to help determine an official cause of death. It was not immediately clear if the elderly Anahuac homeowners owned animals, or if animals are known to be kept in the area. It is unknown what type of animals the injuries are linked to. For now, investigators do not suspect foul play.

"At this time detectives are unable to determine if she collapsed due to a medical condition and the fall caused the head injury, or if the animals may have caused the fall and contributed to her death," Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said in a statement. "But, at this time, we have no reason to believe that there is any foul play involved in her death."

Authorities released an image of the victim to Facebook yesterday, prompting condolences from social media users, some claiming to have known the woman. The post, which included an image that was taken at the scene, attracted more than 200 comments and 140 shares.

The investigation continues.

Earlier this month, in Maryland, a woman heard crying for help was left in "grave" condition after being attacked by two large dogs outside a Fort Washington home.

Police said multiple officers who responded to the scene found the victim being mauled on the ground. One dog was shot and killed at the scene, the second was captured by animal control.
