Thieves Steal Box of Human Heads From Back of Medical Truck

A box filled with human heads was stolen from a truck that was transferring the human remains for medical research in Denver according to police.

The Denver Police Department told Newsweek that they received a report of a theft from a freight company's truck. The incident happened between March 2 and March 3 when "unknown suspect(s) broke into the truck and stole the box."

The police said it was a blue and white box with a label indicating "Exempt Human Specimen."

The police also said that the box with the human remains had "Science Care" written on it, FOX's KDVR-TV reported. Science Care is a program dedicated to taking human bodies or remains as donations that are meant to enhance scientific education and research, according to their website.

The police also said a dolly was stolen along with the box of human remains. No details were revealed about the motive of the thief or why the truck was parked in that area.

"Pretty shocking. I guess I don't see too many strange things happening around here usually, but you know, you never know," Isaac Fields, who resides in the area where the box was stolen, told KDVR-TV. "Wow! I would have been so terrified."

"At this point, no arrests have been made and investigators are working to gather more information to identify the suspect(s) and recover the stolen items," the police said.

Discoveries of human remains have been reported in different parts of the country. On Thursday, the New York Police Department (NYPD) said they were investigating a report by someone who found a headless and armless body in a shopping cart in Brooklyn.

An NYPD spokesperson told Newsweek that an "unidentified adult female torso within a large bag" was found in the cart that was located at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue. A medical examiner was set to determine the cause of death.

In a similar discovery this week, a woman's burned body was found in a shopping cart in Los Angeles. The body was found by a man who saw the shopping cart on fire and later realized that it had a body in it after he put out the flames. Police said the body belonged to a 26-year-old woman.

"We can't say with 100 percent certainty that the person was actually murdered. There could be a bunch of different scenarios that played out prior to this," Los Angeles Police Lt. Ryan Rabbett said, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The story has been updated to include comments from the Denver Police Department.
