Three Youtube Travel Vloggers Die after Falling over Huge Waterfall

Online tributes are pouring in after three travel vloggers known for sharing adventures on YouTube died this week after plunging nearly 100 feet over Shannon Falls waterfall in Canada.

Ryker Gamble, Alexey Lyakh and Megan Scraper—members of the High on Life channel—slipped and fell on Tuesday, July 3. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) aided in a major search.

According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), witnesses said Scraper fell from rocks at the top of the waterfall and was pulled by a strong current. Gamble and Lyakh then reportedly jumped into the water in a failed attempt to rescue her. The RCMP said in a release: “The individuals were with a group of friends when they slipped and fell into a pool 30 meters [98ft] below.”

On Wednesday, authorities confirmed that three bodies were located, but declined to release names. “The RCMP and Squamish SAR have transitioned to a recovery of the bodies from the pool but the terrain is extremely difficult, very dangerous, and the water flow will be heavy with the warm temperatures today, increasing the risk to those in the recovery effort,” police said at the time.

The High on Life collective is well-known for posting artistic pictures and videos across social media and has amassed 500,000 subscribers on YouTube and 1.1 million followers on Instagram.

It has now launched a memorial fund via GoFundMe for the deceased trio.

The group said in a tribute: “There are truly no words that can be said to ease the pain and the devastation that their families are all going through right now. In support of all their loved ones, we have created a GoFundMe for any arrangements that they may need help with.”

“We would like to invite anyone that would like to help by donation to the care and expenses that come at an impossibly difficult time like this,” it continued. “Any size of donation is greatly appreciated. We would also like to encourage anyone to share this Memorial Fund with friends and family as well to provide as much support and love to the ones most affected by this tragic loss.”

The team also published a video to YouTube on Friday about the tragic incident. “They were three of the warmest, kindest, most driven and outgoing people that you could ever meet, and the world has lost a great deal of light with their passing,” the tribute read, with a link to the funding campaign.

The trio were in their late 20s to early 30s, according to Canada’s National Post

At nearly 1,100 feet, Shannon Falls is the third highest waterfall in British Columbia.
