Time Lapse of Chocolate Milk Turning Into Dust Watched 55 Million Times

A time-lapse video showing what happens if a glass of chocolate milk is left out for 40 days has gone viral online, with more than 55 million views.

The clip, which was shared to TikTok by an account called Time Treats, begins with a carton of the pre-mixed drink being poured into a glass.

On the first day the glass looks delicious, but slowly the brown liquid starts to bubble and separate.

By Day 10 the mixture appears oily with chunks of powder in it, as a thick layer of mould grows on the surface.

Soon the drink starts to solidify and by Day 20 the glass is turned upside down so the lump of mold and mush is freestanding on the white table.

For the next 20 days we watch as the solid contracts until it becomes a small, hard lump.

A hand wearing a blue medical glove then enters the shot and breaks the lump apart and it crumbles like dust.

Time Treats captioned the video, which can be watched here, writing: "Turning a chocolate drink back into chocolate [chocolate bar emoji] [smiley-face emoji] #timelapse #timetreats #science #milk #chocolate"

The footage has gained lots of traction online, having been liked by a staggering 6.4 million people.

More than 93,200 people have also rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts on the clip.

One TikTok user, Rocky, wrote: "That's what the cups in my depression room look like... might be time to clean it."

Another person, Dennis, added: "My dad would say there; nothing wrong with it."

SP joked: "Props to the camera guy for staying there so long."

ItsCrackTM Phoenix typed: "Who wants some chocolate cake I made it with my heart."

Andrew Kemp430 asked: "How much would you need to get paid to eat that?"

Duh Baby stated: "How to make brownies in less than 20 days."

Mr.F remarked: "imagine leaving that stuff in your bad during summer break."

According to U.S. Food and Drug Administration, all refrigerated foods, including milk, should not be left out of the fridge for longer than two hours at room temperature.

It says this time window decreases if it is hotter, explaining: "If the temperature is above 90°F, food should not be left out more than 1 hour."

Health and wellbeing platform LiveStrong reveals: "Unfortunately, drinking spoiled milk can take quite the toll on your digestive system. Food poisoning is no joke and can cause vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhea.

"Depending on the food (and your body), food poisoning can occur several hours — or even several days — after drinking spoiled milk. Most often, food poisoning is mild, and symptoms will pass within a day or two."

However, we doubt anyone has tried to eat any dairy products this spoiled, and we do not advise it.
