Time Warner Center, CNN Offices Evacuated for Second Time Due to 'Suspicious Packages'

The Time Warner Center in New York City, where CNN offices are located, was evacuated for the second time in two days after the New York Police Department responded to reports of suspicious packages on Thursday night.

The NYPD announced that it was "currently evaluating a pair of unattended packages at the Time Warner Center Mall," as of Thursday evening.

NYPD spoesman J. Peter Donald confirmed that the NYPD bomb squad was on the scene during the evacuation, according to PIX 11 in New York.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management confirmed that there will likely be "a heavy presence of emergency personnel near the building," according to PIX 11. As of Thursday evening, police had not confirmed what was in the suspicious package.

The second incident took place one day after a suspicious package was found in the same building on Wednesday morning, according to the NYPD.

The initial package contained what seemed to be a "live explosive device," as well as an envelope with white powder, according to New York Police Commissioner James P. O'Neill.

The package was reportedly addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan, a source confirmed to CBS News senior national security analyst Fran Townsend. Brennan has made television appearances and works as an analyst for NBC News since retiring from a career in government.

"The situation at the Time Warner Center was clearly an act of terror attempting to undermine our free press and intimidate New Yorkers," said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. "But the people of this city have shown time and again that they stand up in the face of terror."

CNN reported that the package was addressed to Brennan in care of its network, which has often been criticized by President Donald Trump as "fake news." Brennan had his security clearance revoked by Trump after he called the president's behaviour during the July summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin was "nothing short of treasonous."

A law enforcement official confirmed to NBC News that the package sent to CNN on Wednesday was "nearly identical" to the devices sent to former President Barack Obama, former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and Democratic backer George Soros, among others earlier this week.

Correction, 10/29: This story originally stated inaccurately that Brennan was stripped of his role with the CIA; his security clearance was revoked.
