Toddler Shows Dog How to Use Slide In Adorable Video: 'This Is Friendship'

An adorable video of a toddler showing his pet bulldog how to use his slide has been lighting up social media.

Footage of the young child encouraging his pet to come and have a go on the plaything went viral after being shared to Twitter by Yoda4ever, where it has already been viewed 2.3 million times, earning over 15,000 retweets and more than 115,000 likes in the process.

The video was originally shared to Instagram by entrepreneur Paula Andrea in October 2020. However, it only began to gain traction after being posted to the platform by another account, Bulldog Del Eje, where the clip earned over 290,000 likes.

The footage has proven popular to say the least, with viewers struck by the unique affinity that exists between the dog and the young child. However, that bond isn't necessarily a big surprise.

Back in 2017 a study by researchers from the University of Arizona found that dogs and two-year-old children show similar patterns in social intelligence. Scientists got a group of two-year-olds, dogs and chimpanzees to perform a series of comparable tests designed to measure various types of cognition.

While the chimps did well on tests around spatial reasoning and physical environment, both the dogs and children excelled with cooperative communication skills like being able to follow a pointing finger or the human gaze.

The young child and dog in this particular clip appear to be exhibiting similarly impressive levels of cooperative communication.

In the video, the toddler can be seen patting on the top step of his slide, encouraging his dog to climb up and give it a try. The pet pooch happily obliges, though the canine needs a little help in getting up there.

Thankfully, the young tot is only too happy to lend a helping hand. After a momentary struggle, the dog makes it to the top of the ladder before descending down the slide, much to the delight of Andrea, who can be heard laughing on the video.

She's not the only one who enjoyed their efforts. On Twitter, the toddler and dog team proved a major hit with fans of all things cute.

"What an incredible understanding and bond," livingroom_ally said. "This can't be beat." Angela28hicks agreed: "This is too cute." while junielake wrote: "This just touched my heart."

Fathorseoffcial said: "Communication between man and dog has never been with words" with Stephen85506067 commenting: "This is friendship."Tfr_ashari felt it was "cuteness overload" while KingTajada claimed: "I've had pets all my life but I don't think we've ever been on a vibe this high."

Newsweek has contacted Andrea for comment.
