A New Jersey hunter set a new record, a panel confirmed earlier this month. The 700-pound bear was shot with a bow and arrow in Morris County last October.
Black bear sightings are becoming increasingly common in Connecticut as the animal's population grows.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was staying at Red Pine Island on Rainy Lake, close to the U.S. border. The attack occurred on September 1, police said.
Authorities made the decision to euthanize the black bear, which was believed to be between two and three years old, after people continued to feed and take selfies with the animal.
The men did not know they were being filmed.
A black bear was hunted and fatally shot after William Lee Hill, Jr.'s remains were found.
"Pennsylvania's rifle deer season just ended and there were deer parts in close proximity," explained game warden Chris Krebs.
The cub has earned itself the nickname "Buckethead."
William McCormick, 28, and Zachary Tennyson, 19, were hunting in the area around Carter Lake.
