Created in 1997 as part of the Taxpayer Relief Act under former President Bill Clinton, the Child Tax Credit is a tax credit parents can claim for dependent children. Parents are allowed to claim $2,000 in tax relief per child. The tax credit is credited with lifting millions of children out of poverty. It's expected the credit will lower to $1,000 per child in 2025.
