When Democrats took control of the House last January, visions of subpoena power danced in their heads. Six months later, the question looms: Will they have anything to show for their efforts before the next election—just 17 months off.

Prosecutors have accused the congressman of funding five romantic relationships with women involved in politics, including lobbyists, an aide to a leadership member and even one of his own staffers.

"You know what? There's not a lock on the door," Representative Michael Burgess told MSNBC on Monday evening.

"I'm hoping today that we challenge his humanity and Mitch McConnel has a chance to show America that Republicans and Democrats can come together for truly a bipartisan issue," John Feal said.

Collins was a deciding vote to confirm the Supreme Court judge, a Trump nominee whose confirmation seemed all but certain—until several women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct that stemmed back to high school.

The move by Republicans to side with Democrats for the increased environmental protections clashed with the Trump administration's stance, which has been to roll back environmental regulations put into place under the Obama administration.

Tensions have heightened between the U.S. and Iran following a string of actions taken by Iran on U.S. assets abroad, and lawmakers waver when it comes to whether or not they should have to approve Trump taking military action in the region.

The decision by the president not to execute a retaliatory operation against Iran only left lawmakers on Capitol Hill feeling more uneasy about the situation.

Earlier this week, House Democrats passed an amendment to an appropriations bill that would make it illegal for the State Department to spend money at Trump businesses.

There are now three House Democrats considered vulnerable in 2020 by the fundraising wing of the party who support an impeachment inquiry, potentially putting themselves—and Democrats' House majority—at risk by supporting impeachment in divided districts.

"I think it would be good for them to make a little more progress," former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe said.

White House lawyers prevented the former Trump campaign aide and former White House communications director from answering any questions related to her time working in the West Wing.

Yesterday McConnell said slavery reparations aren't a "good idea" because slavery ended 150 years ago and "we elected an African American president."

Several Democratic lawmakers told Newsweek that White House lawyers claimed "absolute" immunity over the former campaign and former White House official from answering certain questions, infuriating them and alleging obstruction of justice.

There are 14 members on the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties.

"I don't think reparations for something that happened 150 years ago, for which none of us living are responsible, is a good idea," McConnell said.

The Senate majority leader refused to consider President Barack Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland in 2016.

"Opening an impeachment inquiry is exactly what we must do when the President obstructs justice, advises witnesses to ignore legal subpoenas, & more. Bye,"," the New York congresswoman said on Twitter.

"If the president shirks his responsibility with one eye on his personal gain, Congress needs to use its full powers... to protect the country," Republicans for the Rule of Law said.

"Handgun licensing saves lives for the same reason drivers' licensing saves lives," one of the bills' sponsors said.

House Republicans look to permanently eliminate gun-free school campuses across the country by reintroducing a bill to fully repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act.

"I have not met a Congressman, Democrat or Republican, who's said that they've ever done this," Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi said.

The California Democrat was pressed to withdraw a comment about "sex-starved males" Wednesday amid a spending bill debate which touched on contraception.

It's past time for Congress to hold Steven Mnuchin in contempt.

"We will know in year eight, nine or ten what revenues it brought in to the government over time," Congressman Kevin Brady said.

Proponents say a cost of living increase is long overdue, and that it would combat corruption, allow for better legislative staffers and for them to be paid more.

Conservatives ruthlessly attacked Ocasio-Cortez for backing a Congress pay raise supported by top Republicans, claiming she just wants "yoga classes" and "luxury apartments."

"Sick and dying, they brought themselves down here to speak—to no one. Shameful, it's an embarrassment to this country and it is a stain on this institution," Stewart said.

"It is almost unheard of for the Justice Department to release raw evidence to another entity so that the Justice Department can be second guessed," Andrew Napolitano said.

"I would be willing to personally indict the case and to try the case," Joyce White Vance, a former U.S. attorney, told Congress.
