The governor's office had threatened to dock the pay of superintendents and school board members in districts that are defying his executive order.
A report by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association revealed nearly 4.3 million U.S. COVID-19 cases have affected children.
The Centers for Disease Control and prevention is recommending school-age children wear masks indoors for K-12 schools.
"We are all working to protect Texas children and those most vulnerable among us, but violating the Governor's executive orders—and violating parental rights—is not the way to do it."
Jimmy Dyehouse has denied that his outburst about Governor Andy Beshear, in a voicemail message to parents, was politically motivated.
"Any school district, public university, or local government official that decides to defy GA-38—which prohibits gov't entities from mandating masks—will be taken to court."
The new, local law in Erie County was adopted as the Delta variant of COVID-19 has surged in the country.
"There's been no change in the proportion of pediatric patients who are COVID positive," Governor Ron DeSantis, who banned mask mandates in Florida, said.
"Oregon is facing a spike in COVID-19 hospitalizations ... that is quickly exceeding the darkest days of our winter surge," Governor Kate Brown said.
The Republican senator, who is an eye surgeon, had another video removed by YouTube last week over similar remarks about the effectiveness of masks.
"I am not going to back away from that with the threat of him withholding my salary," Alachua County School Board Vice Chair Tina Certain told Newsweek.
The footage shows the Democrat at a wedding in Wayne County, Michigan, where community transmission is "substantial."
"The State Board of Education could move to withhold the salary of the district superintendent or school board members...who led to the violation of law."
"The district is going to abide with the CDC recommendation for universal masking inside school buildings," said DPSCD Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti.
The district superintendent stated that 200 students were also sent home to quarantine over COVID concerns.
In Texas, Houston city employees and the Dallas Independent School District are under mask mandates despite state bans.
"Cawthorn, though closer to a child's age than I am, really does not have any perspective on this," said Schrier.
The comment comes as Missouri is in the midst of a COVID surge fueled by the highly-transmissible Delta variant.
About 67 percent of Americans plan to wear masks when sick, according to the poll by The Washington Post and George Mason University.
The governor recently reinstated mask mandates as the Delta variant has led to a huge spike in COVID-19 cases in his state.
"Requiring masks at school will protect our children. Currying favor with narrow political interests will not," Elvin Dowling said Friday.
Pulaski County Circuit Judge Tim Fox temporarily blocked Arkansas from enforcing a law that bans mask mandates by schools and other governmental bodies.
Georgia declined to impose a statewide mask mandate for schools and instead gave local institutions the ability to decide whether or not to require face coverings.
A group of parents in the state's Buncombe County declared themselves the new school board following the vote.
Several states across the U.S. have prohibited face mask mandates, while the CDC has advised staff and students to wear face coverings in schools.
Tyler Kuntz, who teaches music in Oxford, Mississippi, said he opposed the decision to bring back a mask mandates without asking for parents' input.
"When you wear masks, when you provide distancing, when you are testing regularly and when you're quarantining, you can function in school," Cardona said.
The school districts argue that the ban violates Arkansas' constitution, and want a temporary block on the ban while the lawsuit's being considered.
The lawsuit says the mask mandate caused her to cancel a trip to Hawaii.
The Florida lawmaker said the focus should be placed on vaccinations not masks.
