With the Delta variant accounting for 93 percent of new cases, six governors face a strain on their hospitals as they remain focused on keeping their states open and deregulated.
"Let me be crystal clear: Alabama remains open for business," Republican Governor Kay Ivey said while ordering a state of emergency on Friday.

Nathaniel Woods was executed this week by lethal injection despite repeated calls to the Alabama governor for clemency.
Woods was convicted for the killings of three police officers who were shot dead, but his co-defendant said he never pulled the trigger.
