"This bill seems almost universally hated in Washington," says Oliver. "It is truly the Ted Cruz of health care legislation."
"Trump sees something that jibes with his worldview, doesn't check it, half-remembers it and then passes it on, at which point it takes on a life of its own and appears to validate itself," says Oliver.
"While this always gets framed as an issue about parents and their children, it's actually about everybody," Oliver says. "Because kids grow up."
"The lack of coverage they complain about so much might have genuinely benefited them," Oliver says of the leading third-party candidates. "Their key proposals begin to crumble under the slightest scrutiny."
"There might well be detainees who we scooped up as young men who we think are guilty," says Oliver. "But they will never get a trial, and they will be there until they die."
"It is dangerous to think there is an equal number on both sides."
