"I am alarmed and stunned you used deadly force in this fashion," Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Robert Schroeder wrote in a letter announcing his intention to terminate Officer Brett Hankison.
Protesters have demanded that criminal charges be brought against the officers involved in Taylor's fatal shooting on March 13.
"We marched to his house this morning as the sun was rising and were there to demand that he wake up and start serving the people of Kentucky and people around this country," said Stevie O'Hanlon, communications director for the Sunrise Movement.
"This administration simply believes it is above the law," attorneys for Breonna Taylor's family said in a press release.

Liquor Barn apologized for the incident and said the employee responsible for turning the woman away and the store's general manager had been fired.
"I recognize that the process takes longer than we all want, but this is what must be done to ensure a thorough and fair investigation," Acting Louisville Police Chief Robert Schroeder said Wednesday.
Mayor Greg Fischer said in a statement that he understands their actions and it does not change his appreciation for the police force.
