The House select committee investigating the January 6 riot included the conspiracy theorist in a the latest round of subpoenas issued on Monday.

"Welcome to modern-day McCarthyism," McConnell said in a fiery speech on the Senator floor. "McCarthy-like tactics out in the open for everyone to see."

"The real intent of the United States is to employ its state apparatus in every conceivable way to suppress and block out China's high-tech companies," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said.

"So many lives have been ruined over nothing—McCarthyism at its WORST!"
