China said that "the Venezuelan government has maintained calmness and restraint and has spared no effort to maintain domestic peace and stability and to effectively avoid large-scale bloody conflicts."
President Nicolás Maduro mocked the U.S. president's attempt to persuade Venezuela's military to support opposition leader Juan Guaidó and allow humanitarian aid into the country. "Who is the commander of the armed forces—Donald Trump from Miami?" he asked.
"I don't understand why members of this committee or the American people should find any testimony that you give today to be truthful," Congresswoman Ilhan Omar told U.S. special envoy to Venezuela Elliott Abrams.
"In the face of any aggression, of any nature and intensity, we will defend Venezuela, as it belongs to us," said Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, who is standing by embattled President Nicolás Maduro.
