Sunspots are dark spots that temporarily appear on the solar surface.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the comet should be easily visible in the evening sky for the rest of July.
"These images are closest images ever taken of the sun—and we have just started our long journey through the inner solar system," said Daniel Müller from the European Space Agency.
"At some point, I could see it by naked eye. I cannot tell you the emotion which exploded in my heart!" astronomer Gianluca Masi said.

The day of June 20 will have the most hours of sunlight and the shortest night of 2020 in the northern hemisphere.
However, the behavior of comets is notoriously unpredictable and it is possible that the comet could disintegrate as it passes the sun.
The images will be snapped by the European Space Agency's Solar Orbiter.
"This is the first step in trying to understand the evolution of Mars' atmosphere," Håkan Svedhem, ESA's TGO Project Scientist, told Newsweek.
Annular solar eclipses occur when the moon is at apogee—its farthest distance from the Earth—and passes directly in front of the sun.
Penumbral lunar eclipses occur when the outer, diffuse part of the Earth's shadow covers all or part of the moon's surface.
This Friday, a "penumbral lunar eclipse" will be visible from many parts of the world.
The comet will make its closest approach to the sun on May 27, when it will be around 40 million miles from our star.
However, the behavior of comets is notoriously unpredictable and it's possible that the object could fade, or even break apart, as it approaches the sun.
On April 29, the asteroid will come within around 3.9 million miles of our planet.
Some solar cycles feature lots of activity, while others can be relatively quiet.
Radiation from dying main sequence stars can cause asteroids to spin until they break up, researchers have found.
Space weather is driven by activity from the sun.
"It's an exciting time to be a solar physicist," said Valentin Pillet, director of the National Solar Observatory.
Betelgeuse a nearby red supergiant star which is up to 20 times more massive than our sun.
These planets are roughly the size of Jupiter, however, they are around a hundred times lighter.
The results could have significant implications for space weather prediction, particle physics experiments on Earth and our understanding of the sun's atmosphere.
The asteroid will travel past our planet at a staggering velocity of around 27,500 miles per hour.
"Imagine condensing two-thirds of the Milky Way—which has a stellar mass equivalent to 60 billion suns—into a black hole and you have what we measured," said researcher Roberto Saglia.
This celestial event only takes place around 13 times a century.
