Tottenham Hotspur vs. Aston Villa: Where to Watch EPL, Live Stream, Team News and Odds

Two of the Premier League big spenders collide on the first weekend of the season, as Tottenham Hotspur hosts Aston Villa.

After not making a single signing last summer, Spurs recruited Tanguy Ndombele from Olympique Lyon for $67.2 million, before adding Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso on deadline day.

While Mauricio Pochettino's bid to bring Paulo Dybala to North London failed, Spurs have had an excellent summer as they look to build from a season that ended with a defeat against Liverpool in the Champions League final.

Kieran Trippier was sold to Atletico Madrid, but Christian Eriksen has remained at the club for the time being, although whether he will still be a Spurs by the end of the European transfer window remains to be seen.

Under the Argentine, Tottenham has emerged as the main challenger to Manchester City and Liverpool's duopoly, but Spurs will have to improve if they are to close the gap. Last season Tottenham lost an astonishing 13 league games, more than anyone else in the top six, and Pochettino will be hoping for a sharp improvement.

After two seasons in the Championship, Villa has marked its return to the Premier League with a summer splurge that has seen the club fork out $176 million on 13 new players.

Dean Smith has done enough to show he can get players to gel together quickly and will need to do so again if Villa is to survive.

For all Villa's new arrivals, the side best and most influential player remains Jack Grealish. A talismanic figure in the Championship last season, the midfielder will be one of the players to watch this year.

Form

Spurs took some major scalps in preseason, beating Juventus, Real Madrid and Bayern—albeit after a penalty shootout—and losing in regulation only to Manchester United.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, won all five friendlies it played, scoring 16 goals in the process and conceding just two. Results in preseason carry relatively little weight but the Villains can look forward to the season with optimism.

Team news

Some of both clubs' shiny new signings are expected to make their Premier League debut on Saturday. Tanguy Ndombele should start from Spurs in midfield, while Bjorn Engels is expected to get the nod in the middle of the back four for Villa.

Dean Smith could also hand a first start to striker Wesley Moraes.

Odds

According to Oddschecker, Tottenham is a 8/25 favorite (-316 in moneyline terms), while the draw is at 19/4 and Villa is a 20/1 outsider.
