Transfer News: Chelsea Close to First Summer Signing, Marouane Fellaini to Remain at Manchester United

Chelsea may still not have a new manager, but the Blues are closing in on their first signing of the summer.

The London Evening Standard believes they have made a $46.3 million bid for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, who played for two seasons under Maurizio Sarri, the Blues' predicted future manager, at Empoli.

Meanwhile, the former Napoli boss is expected to replace Antonio Conte as soon as Chelsea reach a "compensation agreement" with the latter and the Serie A club. Meanwhile, The Sun reports that Carlo Ancelotti, Sarri's successor at Napoli, is ready to bid around $34.4 million for Chelsea defender David Luiz.

The Evening Standard also adds Chelsea could allow England midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek out on loan again next season. Crystal Palace are eager to bring the 22-year-old back to Selhurst Park, where he spent last season on loan.

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are also pushing to sign Kostas Manolas. However, the Roma defender is reportedly unwilling to take advantage of the release clause in his contract.

Chelsea aren't the only club interested in signing Serie A defenders, with the Daily Mirror claiming Manchester United are considering a bid for AC Milan captain Leonardo Bonucci. The Italy international surprisingly left Juventus for the Rossoneri last summer. However, he might be on the move again, as the seven-time European Cup winners could be forced to sell some of their prized assets due to financial turmoil.

The Daily Mirror also suggests United and Liverpool are both considering an ambitious move for Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-min Son, while the Daily Mail reports Lyon's president Jean-Michel Aulas has spoken with Jose Mourinho about a possible deal for Nabil Fekir.

The France international looked set to move to Liverpool until the deal collapsed earlier this month. He could now be a surprise target for United, given Mourinho is looking to bolster his midfield options.

The Portuguese can also count on Marouane Fellaini's services next season. The Belgian international's contract with United expires at the end of the month and he said he would reveal his future on July 1 but, as reported by Sport Witness, Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws believes the 30-year-old will sign a new two-year deal at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror reports Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio has refused to rule out the possibility of joining Liverpool after the World Cup. The Daily Express believes the Reds' quest for a new goalkeeper has also been boosted, after Roma sporting director Monchi has admitted Brazil shot-stopper Alisson is not "unsellable".

The same paper claims Tottenham have emerged as favorites to land Jack Grealish, after the midfielder told Aston Villa he wants to leave the club in the summer in order to join a Premier League club.

Elsewhere, sources quoted by ESPN suggests Manchester City are considering re-signing Aaron Mooy from Huddersfield Town. The Australian spent the 2016-17 season on loan with the Terriers, before joining the Yorkshire club for $13.2 million last summer. However City retain a $26.4 million buy-back option, which they could trigger this summer.
