Transfer News: Jose Mourinho Tells Paul Pogba to Hand in Manchester United Transfer Request

The saga surrounding Paul Pogba's future has taken a new twist, amid reports the relationship between him and Jose Mourinho is at an all-time low.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Barcelona throughout the summer, amid reports he has grown disillusioned with life at Manchester United under Mourinho.

Last week, the club rejected an offer of Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and a fee of $56.8 million. On Wednesday, Barcelona's director Ariedo Braida suggested the Spanish giants would not sign Pogba this season.

However, The Sun claims Pogba could force his way out of Old Trafford as his relationship with Mourinho has hit a nadir. The Portuguese was reportedly incensed by Pogba hinting to the media he would be fined if he said what he thought about playing under "The Special One."

Mourinho has apparently told Pogba he can leave if he wants, but will have to submit a formal transfer request. Meanwhile, the Daily Mail suggests Barcelona are monitoring the situation and could table a new offer in January should the relationship between the duo not mend.

As if Pogba wasn't enough of a headache for Mourinho, the Portuguese now faces the prospect of seeing one of his top targets joining another club. The Daily Mirror suggests Toby Alderweireld could swap Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern Munich, as the Bundesliga champions look for a replacement for Jerome Boateng, who looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain.

United had long been linked with a move for the Belgian this summer but failed to meet Spurs' asking price. They might now be forced to look elsewhere in January.

On the other side of the north London divide, Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina could also be set to leave the Premier League. According to Sky Sports in Italy, the Colombian is set to undergo a medical at Napoli after falling down the pecking order at Arsenal following the arrival of Bernd Leno.

Speaking of Serie A, The Sun claims Liverpool have turned down a loan deal offer from Torino for Marko Grujic. The Italian side wanted to take the midfielder on a season-long loan with a view to completing an $11.4 million move in the summer, but Liverpool have declined the offer and want to tie the 22-year-old to a new deal.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mail reports European leagues are set to fall in line with the Premier League over the transfer window deadline. For the first time since its inception, the Premier League opted to close the transfer window a day before the beginning of the season.

However, Italian clubs can buy players until August 17, while the window for German and Spanish clubs shuts on August 31.
