Trump Ally Matt Schlapp Complains He's 'Not Welcome' on CNN—While on CNN's 'Cuomo Prime Time'

American Conservative Union chairman and ardent ally of former President Donald Trump, Matt Schlapp, complained to CNN's primetime live audience Friday that he's a victim of "cancel culture" because he doesn't feel welcome on the network.

Schlapp and CNN's Chris Cuomo, who hosts a show literally entitled Cuomo Prime Time, went tit-for-tat over this weekend's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas.

A visibly annoyed Cuomo appeared to challenge Schlapp's reason for coming on the show if all he wanted to discuss was whether President Joe Biden defeated Trump last year. Cuomo expressed his disappointment, saying CPAC is "where you used to see where the head and the heart of the party were," and not a year-old election.

Cuomo and social media critics alike dragged Schlapp after he complained that conservatives like himself are routinely victims of so-called "cancel culture," despite the fact he was currently on CNN's literal primetime program as he spoke. Schlapp ultimately concluded that Cuomo and other members of the "left" simply don't understand how "cancel culture" works.

"The title and the theme of CPAC is 'America UnCanceled,'" Schlapp replied, which prompted Cuomo to shoot back: "But what are you canceling, the truth?"

Schlapp then replied: "Why am I on your show? Because you asked me and I'm happy to be on."

Cuomo quickly responded: "I invited you on because you're very relevant on the right side of the aisle."

Schlapp said one example of people like himself being "canceled" was earlier this year and last when some conservatives were trying to reopen schools or churches during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite Cuomo correctly noting that such restrictions were implemented on a state-by-state basis, Schlapp proclaimed that the CNN host simply wouldn't understand what it feels like to be "canceled."

"You don't feel canceled because you never are. We feel canceled because we constantly are. Now, you've — you've broken the model because you've had me on CNN. People like me don't get on CNN anymore."

"Matt, you're always welcome here to make the case —" Cuomo said.

"That's not true! It's not true. I'm not welcome at CNN, and you know that," Schlapp said.

"Where are you right now? What do you think CNN is? The Cuomo News Network? You're on CNN right now, brother," Cuomo said.

Additionally, Cuomo asked Schlapp during the CNN interview on "why are you making CPAC about the 'Big Lie' and not all the other things you could argue?"

Newsweek reached out to Schlapp's office at the American Conservative Union as well as to CNN for any additional comments Saturday afternoon.
