Trump-Backed Author Starts Petition to Support Canadian, American Truckers

Conservative author Nick Adams started an online petition Wednesday to support protesting truckers in Canada and the U.S.

"Truckers are the backbone of America but they are under attack from radical leftists like Joe Biden and Justin Trudeau," Adams, whose books have been praised by former President Donald Trump, wrote in the online petition. "These truckers are standing up to the left and fighting to end the mandates, but they need our help!"

He posted his petition just as the People's Convoy of American truckers were set to depart California Wednesday for a trip to the nation's capital, where the group has said they will protest COVID 19-related mandates. The People's Convoy drew inspiration from Canada's Freedom Convoy, who occupied Ottawa for weeks and blocked Canadian border crossings into the U.S. as a protest against the country's pandemic restrictions.

The Australian-born Adams has made appearances on Fox News and contributed articles to conservative outlets such as TownHall.com, but he is perhaps best known as the author of books such as 2017's Green Card Warrior. Trump called that work a "must read" in a tweet, and the former president also later recommended Adams' Retaking America. Adams' most recent book, Trump and Reagan, was published in 2021.

Before coming to America, which he documented in Green Card Warrior, Adams was a politician in Australia. At the age of 21, he was elected the deputy mayor of the Ashfield municipality in Sydney. One policy that he proposed that gained notoriety was killing pigeons in Ashfield as a way to prevent the spread of Avian flu.

"Ashfield should be inhospitable to pigeons," Adams said at a council meeting, according to The Guardian. "Avian influenza does not respect borders...I'm not an expert. I'm not an accountant. I'm certainly not a pest controller. Don't ask me about procedure. What I would like to see is no pigeons in our area."

Adams is a frequent user of Twitter, where he often shares his political views on various issues. On Wednesday, he announced his petition supporting truckers by tweeting, "We The People STAND with our truckers!"

Other tweets Adams posted on Wednesday include "Critical Race Theory is liberal poison" and "No gun rights, no freedom."

Adams was among the conservative voices who denounced Super Bowl LVI's halftime show. Following the hip-hop showcase featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and others Adams wrote on Twitter: "Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, and Lee Greenwood would put on a better Halftime Show than these hoodlums."

Newsweek contacted Adams for comment but did not hear back in time for publication.
