Trump and Biden Never Went to Vietnam But Act Like Tough Guys Threatening Each Other, Jake Tapper Says

Neither President Donald Trump nor former Vice President Joe Biden served during the Vietnam War, or in the military at all, but both are lobbing insults and threats like "tough guys," CNN's Jake Tapper said Thursday morning.

Tapper pointed out that Trump and Biden received many deferments from serving, the former for bone spurs and the latter for asthma, during one of the country's worst and deadliest wars.

"Reminder that between the two of these tough guys are nine Vietnam deferments and claims they couldn't serve because of asthma and bone spurs," he tweeted.

Tapper highlighted his father-in-law's service during the war and how he "isn't running around talking about how tough he is."

"You know who's a tough guy from that generation? My father in law, Sgt Tom Brown, enlisted in the US Air Force 1966, honorably discharged 1969. In country from 1968-1969, in the 12th Security Police Squadron Pacific Air Command. Isn't running around talking about how tough he is," Tapper wrote.

Tapper was incorrect about the total number of deferments, though. Biden received five and Trump five as well, with each getting a Selective Service classification of 1-Y. The designation meant they would not have to serve unless there was a national emergency.

Democrat Biden, who could very well square off against Trump in 2020, claimed Tuesday during an anti-sexual assault rally that he would have "beat the hell" out of Trump if the Republican had said anything in front of him like the current president did in the infamous Access Hollywood tape.

Trump responded in kind Thursday morning by stating "Crazy Joe Biden" should not threaten people but that if the pair of septuagenarians did square off Biden "would go down fast and hard, crying all the way."

"Crazy Joe Biden is trying to act like a tough guy. Actually, he is weak, both mentally and physically, and yet he threatens me, for the second time, with physical assault. He doesn't know me, but he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way. Don't threaten people Joe! ," the president tweeted.
