Donald Trump has hit back at Democrat claims he is "weird"—by calling Kamala Harris "weird" instead.

The Harris campaign has spent over a week calling Trump and his running mate JD Vance weird and seemingly having had enough, the former president took to the airwaves to insist on his normalcy.

"They're the weird ones and if you've ever seen her [Harris] with the laugh and everything else, that's a weird deal going on there. They're the weird ones. Nobody's ever called me weird. I'm a lot of things, but weird I'm not. And I'm upfront. And he's not either, I will tell you. JD is not at all. They are," Trump told radio host Clay Travis.

In the clip, Trump says the word "weird" five times in 20 seconds as he denies he and Vance are weird. That only seemed to draw the ire of the Harris campaign, which reposted the clip on X, formerly Twitter, with the caption "Trump (who is weird)."

Newsweek contacted representatives of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris by email to ask them about their possible weirdness.

Such accusations are fast becoming a key weapon as the race for the White House gathers pace, especially for the Democrats, who have used social media to amplify these messages.

In a post on X, Kamala HQ called out JD Vance's stance on abortion as "weird behavior."

"Weird strategy but ok," read another Kamala HQ post responding to claims in the Washington Post saying that Trump and Vance seemed to be ready to offend female voters.

Some senior democrats, such as Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz, Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Governor of Kentucky Andy Beshear, have also deployed "weird" name-calling tactics.

In response to a video of Trump talking about Hannibal Lecter, Walz wrote on X: "Say it with me: weird."

In response, the Republicans are now clearly seeking to flip the narrative.

"You know what's really weird? Soft on crime politicians like Kamala allowing illegal aliens out of prison so they can violently assault Americans" Donald Trump Jr. said in a post on X.

In another X post focusing on Harris' failure to address the murder of Laken Riley, JD Vance wrote: "I find it very weird that Kamala is so cold and heartless about the American kids dying because of her open border policies."
