Trump Says Joe Biden 'Couldn't Pass' Cognitive Test

In a Thursday interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, President Donald Trump said he didn't believe presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden could pass a cognitive test.

Biden's age and mental acuity have come under criticism by some who believe he may be too old to handle the pressure of running the country. Biden is 77 years old, only three years older than Trump. If Biden emerges victorious in the 2020 election, then he will be the oldest person to be elected as U.S. President in the nation's history.

Biden said during a press conference in July that he has taken cognitive tests "constantly." President Trump implied that Biden actually meant he was constantly tested for COVID-19 because Biden was "confused by the question and the words and everything else."

"He didn't mean that, because he hasn't taken any cognitive tests because he couldn't pass one," Trump said. President Trump expressed his desire for Biden to take the "same exact test" as he said he'd taken at Walter Reed Hospital.

Trump also said he believed Biden had been "brainwashed" by members of the "radical left."

"He has no clue what they're doing and what they're getting him into," Trump said.

"They brainwashed him," Trump added. "He doesn't know where he is, he doesn't know what he's doing and our country will suffer. Our stock markets will crash. Bad things will happen."

Newsweek reached out to the Biden campaign for comment.

Trump has cast doubts on Biden's mental state, often referring to Biden as "Sleepy Joe" in campaign speeches and tweets. He has also insinuated that Biden would function as a puppet president for members of the Democratic Party.

"Sleepy Joe Biden's people are so Radical Left that they are working to get the Anarchists out of jail, and probably more," Trump tweeted in June, referring to individuals protesting the May death of George Floyd. "Joe doesn't know anything about it, he is clueless, but they will be the real power, not Joe. They will be calling the shots! Big tax increases for all, Plus!"

In July, Biden released the results of a medical assessment he underwent at George Washington University. "Vice President Biden is a healthy, vigorous, 77-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief," the report concluded.

While the results of Biden's cognitive tests have not been released by the campaign, Biden said in July that Trump appears to lack awareness.

"This president," Biden told reporters, "he talks about cognitive ability. He doesn't seem cognitively aware of what's going on. He either reads and or gets briefed on important issues and he forgets it, or he doesn't think it's necessary that he needs to know it."
