Tucker Carlson Says Joe Biden Interview Edited to Make Him Less 'Incoherent, Confused'

Fox News host Tucker Carlson has suggested that ABC News selectively edited a recent interview with President Joe Biden in order to make him look better by excluding a portion of his conversation with George Stephanopoulos.

Carlson told his prime time audience on Thursday about the recently released ABC News transcript of the Wednesday interview. That transcript featured a section that was not broadcast where Biden discussed his deceased son, Beau Biden.

In that exchange with Stephanopoulos, Biden appears to say that his son was in the Navy before correcting himself and saying Beau Biden was in the Army. Carlson described the exchange as "not presidential."

Carlson discussed the Taliban's rapid takeover of Afghanistan and the role the intelligence community played in assessing how quickly the country might fall before turning to the question of editing Biden's interview.

He said: "Toward the end of his interview with ABC, there was this exchange. That exchange was never broadcast on camera. Now, television networks edit interviews very often for time. But ABC News appears to have chosen to edit out portions that made Joe Biden look, how to put it, not presidential, incoherent, confused."

"We think it's worth knowing what happened, especially in a moment of national crisis," Carlson said and read from the ABC News transcript.

In that section of the transcript, Stephanopoulos asked Biden about Afghanistan veterans who believe it is time to get out of the country but cited Army Special Forces officer Javier McKay, who said he "wish we could've left with honor."

According to the transcript, Biden replied: "Look, that's like askin' my deceased son Beau, who spent six months in Kosovo and a year in Iraq as a Navy captain and then major—I mean, as an Army major. And, you know, I'm sure h—he had regrets comin' out of Afganista—I mean, out of Iraq."

"He had regrets to what's—how—how it's going. But the idea—what's the alternative?" Biden said.

Carlson said on Thursday: "We're waiting for the tape, but that's the transcript. Now the president's son was in the Navy, not the Army. He was in the Army, not the Navy? It's not clear from that. We believe he was in the Army, not the Navy.

"He did not serve in Afghanistan. He served in Kosovo and Iraq. Joe Biden can't seem to remember those details. We're not attacking him. We're not telling you this with glee. We're telling you because it's true. This is the man leading our country," Carlson said.

Beau Biden was a major in the Delaware Army National Guard and served a year in Iraq in 2008 to 2009. He was awarded the Bronze Star. Biden had worked in Kosovo following the 1998/1999 war there and helped to train prosecutors and judges.
