Tucker Carlson Wishes Chris Cuomo Well Over Coronavirus Diagnosis: We'll 'Take A Break' from Mocking Him

Fox News host Tucker Carlson had some kind words for CNN anchor Chris Cuomo on his show Tuesday evening, after Cuomo had been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Though Carlson has often had harsh words for Cuomo—which Carlson even pointed out—the Fox host sent his best wishes to the CNN anchor, who has promised to do his show from his basement for as long as he's able.

"No show on television, I think it's fair to say, has mocked CNN anchor Chris Cuomo more often or more gleefully than this one has, but tonight we're gonna take a break from that," Carlson said. "This morning, Cuomo announced that like so many thousands of other people in New York, he's been infected with the coronavirus. Cuomo said he's had a fever and shortness of breath, but his main worry was infecting his wife and children. Those are the right priorities."

"Cuomo said he'd continue to do his show for as long as he can in isolation from his basement. We respect that, too. So, Godspeed to the Cuomo family. We are rooting for you," Carlson added.

Newsweek reached out to Fox News for comment.

Cuomo on Tuesday morning shared the news in a tweet that he had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19. He said he'd been exposed to people who tested positive for the disease "in recent days," and described his symptoms. Cuomo was last at CNN's Hudson Yards offices on Friday.

"I just hope I didn't give it to the kids and Cristina. That would make me feel worse than this illness! I am quarantined in my basement (which actually makes the rest of the family seem pleased!) I will do my shows from here. We will all beat this by being smart and tough and united!" Cuomo said.

Cuomo and Carlson have often sparred on their respective programs. Last July, Carlson mocked Cuomo for going to Yale, suggesting that the CNN anchor received his spot at the prestigious institution because his father, Mario Cuomo, was the governor of New York until 1994.

"If you want to get into a top American college, it's best to have a parent who's a well-known Democratic politician," Carlson said at the time.

Last March, Cuomo slammed Carlson for "playing the victim" and said Carlson would never apologize for offensive remarks made on the Bubba the Love Sponge radio show. Cuomo called Carlson and fellow Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro "the latest provocateurs on the Trump train over at state TV."

"They want to press the divide. They want to attack what most want to protect. And ironically, you give them attention for doing something wrong, and they use that attention to say it more. And ironically, they use your negative attention to play the victim," Cuomo said.
