Is Twitter Down? Outages Reported on Social Media Platform

Twitter users have been experiencing issues accessing the social media service, with hundreds reporting they're unable to use the app's features.

Problems with the Twitter app were reported early this morning, with hundreds of issues being logged at about 2:44 a.m. ET, according to the website and service provider tracker, DownDetector.

According to the website, some 52 percent of users reported having issues logging in to their accounts, while 35 percent said they had problems using it on the web, rather than via the app.

The majority of the issues were recorded in New York City, Philadelphia, Houston, Los Angeles and Seattle, although some were reported across the whole country.

One frustrated user posted on the social media website: "Twitter is down? Pls [please] I can't log in through the app."

Another said: "Is the Twitter app down or something?! I just can't log on the app nd [and] I'm using web rn/srs [right now/ serious]."

A third commented: "I can log into Twitter using Chrome but can't log into Twitter app."

The outage map also showed users reporting issues with the social media app in the U.K., Australia and Japan.

While there have been reported issues about using the app, many users were able to access Twitter on their computers, from where they registered their concerns about logging into the app.

No Twitter Statement Yet

Twitter hasn't yet put out an official statement regarding the outage and it's unclear what the cause for the issues was as of early Tuesday morning.

According to Statista, the U.S. has the most Twitter users in the world with 73 million people using the app. Japan is the second-largest market for Twitter with an estimated 55.5 million users, as of August 2021.

Newsweek has contacted Twitter for comment.

Reports of issues connected to Twitter happened shortly after Verizon customers also complained of suffering significant connection problems.

The wireless service provider suffered major issues at around 12 a.m. ET on Tuesday, with a spike of outages reported to DownDetector.

While the wireless service provider didn't release a statement regarding the outage, it does offer information to customers about what to do should they experience an outage via its website.

Verizon is one of the largest communications companies in the world. According to its website, it has more than 120 million subscribers and generated revenues of some $128.3 billion in 2020.
