Two Killed and More Than 20 Wounded in Mass Shooting at Miami-Dade Concert

Two people have been killed and more than 20 people have been wounded in a mass shooting at a concert in Northwest Miami-Dade on early Sunday morning, according to police.

The shooting took place after midnight at a billiards hall in the 7600 block of Northwest 186th Street. This is an unincorporated area of Miami-Dade County to the west of Miami Gardens.

Up to 25 people may have been wounded and one of the injured is in a critical condition. Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo "Freddy" Ramirez said that a white Nissan Pathfinder pulled up outside the event and three people stepped out with assault rifles and handguns.

The three people, who have not yet been identified, started shooting into the crowd.

"We believe this is a targeted act of gun violence," Ramirez said, according to The Miami Herald. "This is a despicable act of gun violence, a cowardly act."

Eight of the injured were brought to hospitals in Miami Dade and Broward counties by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, while 12 further victims went to hospitals on their own.

"This type of gun violence has to stop," Ramirez said. "Every weekend it is the same thing. This is targeted, this is definitely not random."

"It is very difficult to stop a small amount of individuals who want to go out there and commit murder, and it takes all of us to stop this," he went on. "We really have to put the work in this summer to keep our children and community safe."

Police do not yet have descriptions of the three individuals they're seeking but they are appealing for members of the public to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 if they have any information.

Sunday's attack is the second major shooting incident in the Miami area over the Memorial Day weekend. On Friday, seven people were shot and one was killed in a drive-by shooting outside a property that borders Overtown and Wynwood.

Following the shooting on Friday, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levin Cava took to Twitter to urge people to remain safe over the Memorial Day weekend and thanked the local police.

"Horrified and heartbroken by this start to the holiday weekend," the mayor wrote. "I urge our community to be safe and smart. Please—don't let any more lives end in senseless violence. Thank you to @MiamiPD ,@MiamiDadePD & all the first responders working so hard to protect residents & visitors."

Newsweek has asked Miami-Dade police for comment.
