Two teenagers have been shot dead at a Valentine's Day weekend party in Texas, according to police.
Police raced to 1100 East Baltimore in central Fort Worth, where the party was being held on Saturday. There they found Simieon Joseph, 19, and 13-year-old Kory Smith had been shot, according to ABC affiliate WFAA.
The two teenagers were transported to a nearby hospital where Smith was pronounced dead after arrival. Joseph died after he received treatment, according to the network.
Fort Worth officers did not release any further information about what led to the shooting and only told WFAA they are still looking for suspects.
A man, said to be the brother of the woman who hosted the party, told the network a group of people who were not invited became involved in an argument with others at the gathering, which led to shots being fired. He claimed that both Smith and Joseph were innocent bystanders.
Joseph's mother Melody told WFAA on Sunday: "They didn't just take my son. They took a friend. I want them to catch whoever did this and I want them to get the max penalty."
She later added: "They didn't just take my baby, they took someone else's 13-year-old baby and that is devastating."
The grieving mother later started a GoFundMe page to raise money towards funeral costs for her son.
In a post, Melody said: "My son was murdered at a get-together on February 12th 2022. The world may not have known his greatness but I will do my best to paint a picture of his heart.
"My son Simieon was so talented. He loved to sing and compose music. He was a praying young man and loved everyone, even strangers. He would give his last dollar and the last piece of food from his plate.
"He wasn't just a son, he was an all-around character. He loved to make people laugh. Simeon was the light in every room with the biggest smile ever to grace our presence. Everyone he met he would hug and say 'I love you.'"
The statement read: "Please show him the same love by donating to lay him to rest. Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated."
As of Monday morning, the GoFundMe page has managed to raise $980 out of an $18,000 target.
Newsweek has contacted the Fort Worth Police Department for comment.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, a database that collects information about shootings from across the U.S., 12 people in Fort Worth have been shot dead since January 1 this year.
