Mercedes-AMG driver Valtteri Bottas faces an unenviable task heading into the 2017 Formula One season as he attempts to prove himself a credible rival to teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Bottas, the 27-year-old Finn, is world champion Nico Rosberg's replacement at the German team although he has yet to win a Grand Prix in his career.

On Wednesday, though, Bottas suggested he can make his Mercedes W08 purr in the manner of Hamilton, as he set the fastest lap of winter testing so far at Circuit de Catalunya with a time of 1 minute and 19.705 seconds.

It was all captured, thrillingly, from the cockpit—you can watch the footage here.

While cutting to the drivers' view during races has become a feature of F1 coverage, you have to imagine this kind of feature will be exploited more by new owner Liberty Media in its drive to market the sport to a tech-savvy audience.
