Video of Trashed Movie Theater Goes Viral With 6.7M Views: 'Why Are Humans Like This?'

A video of a trashed movie theater has gone viral with over 6.7 million views.

The video, found here, was posted to TikTok on November 28 by SimplyRachael (@simplyrachaelstudios), who wrote: "Things I find while ushering part 30."

As alluded to in the post's caption, the video is part of an ongoing series in which Rachael—a movie theater employee—shows viewers the various things she finds while cleaning theaters in-between showings.

In this particular video, Rachael finds a beanie, AirPods, cash, a wallet and lots of trash.

"You guys didn't get to see very much of that [the mess] because there was [sic] 194 tickets sold for that movie," said Rachael about midway through the video. "It took three of us 45 minutes, and six 50-gallon trash bags to clean that theater. And it was not, like, 'clean, clean'...we had to leave when the movie started."

In the second half of the video, Rachael can be seen sweeping up large piles of popcorn that had been spilled onto the floor. She even showed viewers a pile of sunflower seeds she found discarded behind a chair.

Of course, Rachael isn't the first usher tasked with cleaning a messy theater.

Posting to Reddit's "Mildly Infuriating" forum last week under the username u/Key-Disaster-3682, a movie theater employee shared a photo that showed a theater's seats and floors covered in soda, popcorn and various snack wrappers and containers.

"[T]this is a regular occurrence," the Redditor said of the photo.

The post has since racked up more than 65,000 up-votes.

"Most moviegoers are slobs, and they make life hell for the underpaid movie theater staff," wrote Thrillist on the topic of movie theater etiquette. "On high-volume weekends, these workers have to rush through massive cleanings to turn over the theater for the next packed screening. It's a tough job. Don't be one of the people who makes it even harder by leaving a trail of garbage everywhere you go."

A majority of Rachael's commenters couldn't understand how or why so much food had been left on the floor for the ushers to clean.

"I will never understand why people are like that with their popcorn and trash," said Raquelle Wedell.

More than 88,000 TikTokers liked Wedell's comment in agreement.

"Who has that much popcorn leftover?" asked Brigette. "I finish mine before the trailers end."

"I understand a little spilt popcorn but SPITTING YOUR SUNFLOWER SEEDS ON THE FLOOR?! Straight to jail. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200," wrote LunarLily.

"I can't understand people. I feel so bad if I drop like 2 pieces of popcorn and people [be] throwing it in the air like confetti," added AgentBrain.

Tina Logan said: "Why are humans like this????? I clean after myself no matter where I go...I CLEANED MY HOSPITAL ROOM BEFORE DISCHARGE AFTER A BABY! Come on now."
