Bride Tells Bridesmaids 'Hit the Gym' Until They Are Size 8 in Brutal Message
A Reddit user's alleged text encounter with a bride-to-be has gone viral after she was asked to drop several dress sizes in order to make the bridal party.
User Junebugg85 shared the post titled "I've dropped out of the bridal party. I'm a size 12 with no plans on dropping to a size eight by December," on May 17.
In the nine hours since it was originally posted to the "Choosing Beggars," Subreddit, the image has received over 30,000 votes on the site.
As per Junebugg85's later clarifying the comments, the text was allegedly sent by the future bride of her "close cousin" who he had begun dating after high school.
The post featured three screenshots of the message, which was sent to members of the bridal party. The bride, who the poster describes as "toxic," wrote:
"Welcome to my bridal party. I'm so excited to marry the man of my dreams. As you know this is going to be a very different wedding. We are hoping to do it outside and understand December is generally a cold month but in Oklahoma it's usually sunny and 70 degrees.
Just a few things to ask. I hand-picked all the dresses for bridesmaids that will be there and they will all be a size eight. So if you're not a size eight, I recommend hitting the gym. No offense to anyone but I have had this planned since I was in diapers and want it perfect. Your nails need to be cut short and uncolored. Hair needs to be shoulder length and straightened, so if your hair is short, get extensions. No fake tans.
As you may notice, my bestie isn't the MOH [Maid of Honor] and is just going to be a guest. If you don't know why just ask, we have an understanding. We also want no kids at the ceremony. Except my flower girl. But she will only be present to throw flowers then her parents are taking her home. I'm sorry if this seems like a lot of demands but this is my special day and I just want it like I always pictured it. Please be respectful and we will have an awesome time.
One thing, i'll be sending my Venmo and Cash App to the ones who haven't paid the $500 donation towards the honeymoon in Hawaii. Love you guys, can't wait to be a wifey."
The Reddit user alleged in further posts that she informed the bride of her decision to drop out, and that she had "seen it coming."
"She said she had seen it coming cause I just gave birth last month and didn't think I would be able to fit my dress but would love for me to come as a guest. Unfortunately I don't have $500 to splurge on some else's honeymoon when I never had one myself," she wrote.
"That's a big, fat NO from me. I will be sitting out this wedding and instead going to stuff my face at Burger King," they further commented.
As for the aforementioned "bestie" of the bride, the Reddit user alleged she had agreed to be a guest instead of maid of honor due to being Native American.
According to comments by Junebugg85, "She is Native American and got beautiful dark skin. But she said she would stand out and the day is supposed to be about her. So she agreed to just be a guest."
"This is the worst thing of everything you have said about her," noted one Reddit user.
Other users appeared also shocked by the post, with one user even writing: "Can she just get a bunch of mannequins from the mall as bridesmaids instead? That's basically what she's demanding they act as."
Newsweek has contacted the Reddit user for comment.
