Everything We Know So Far About Maggie and Negan's 'The Walking Dead' Spin-Off

The Walking Dead may be reaching its end but that doesn't mean that all of its characters are down for the count, in fact it's quite the opposite.

AMC announced on Monday, March 7 that it has greenlit a new spin-off show to the iconic zombie series that will focus on Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Maggie and Negan, titled Isle of the Dead.

Here is everything we know so far about the show.

Who Will Star in 'The Walking Dead' Spin-Off 'Isle of the Dead'?

Given the show has been announced before The Walking Dead Season 11 has come to an end, it all but confirms Maggie and Negan's fate in the show.

By this we mean that in order for the two characters to be in a spin-off they have to survive whatever ordeal is coming in the AMC show's final season, just like how Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride's Daryl and Carol will also live given they are also getting their own spin-off.

AMC has confirmed this to be the case as it stated in a press release that both Morgan and Cohan would reprise their roles as Negan and Maggie, respectively.

No other cast members have been confirmed for the show as yet.

What Will 'The Walking Dead' Spin-Off 'Isle of the Dead' Be About?

AMC has teased that Isle of the Dead is set within The Walking Dead Universe and it will see Maggie and Negan travel to a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, which was cut from the mainland long before the events of the series.

In its press release, AMC described the new location as being a "crumbling city" that "is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror."

Eli Jorné will serve as showrunner and executive producer for Isle of the Dead,
which will have six episodes in its first season.

Scott M. Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead Universe, will be overseeing the project, while Morgan and Cohan will also executive produce the series for AMC.

When Will 'The Walking Dead' Spin-Off 'Isle of the Dead' Be Released?

AMC confirmed that the show will be released in 2023 on the channel and AMC+, but a specific release date has not yet been made public.

Cohan shared a statement on the new series, saying: "I'm thrilled to partner with Dan McDermott and the team at AMC on the next chapter in The Walking Dead Universe.

"Maggie is very close to my heart and I'm excited to continue her journey against the iconic backdrop of New York City, alongside my friend and collaborator, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Eli Jorné has created something incredibly special and I cannot wait for the fans to see what we have in store for Maggie and Negan."

Morgan added in his own statement: "I'm delighted that Negan and Maggie's journey continues. It's been such a ride walking in Negan's shoes, I'm beyond excited to continue his journey in New York City with Lauren.

"Walkers in an urban setting has always been such a cool image, but 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty? The greatest city in the world?? The backdrop is amazing, but it's the story that Eli Jorné cooked up that is even better.

"Buckle up folks, Isle of the Dead is going to reinvent the TWD Universe. Huge thank you to Dan McDermott, Scott Gimple and AMC for having us back for more... we simply can't wait."
