'WandaVision' Release Date: New Trailer Hints at When Marvel Series is Out

WandaVision is set to be the first of Disney+'s Marvel series. The Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany-starring series released a new trailer last week which revealed that the show is coming soon to Disney+. However, the release date of the series may have been revealed.

Initially, WandaVision was intended to be the second of the Disney+ Marvel shows to be released, following Falcon and the Winter Solider. However, Covid-related delays have shunted that show into 2021, while WandaVision has been moved from an early 2021 release date to one in late 2020.

In February, then-Disney CEO Bob Iger said in an investors call that WandaVision would be debuting in December 2020, with Falcon and the Winter Soldier set for August 2020. Though the latter has been delayed, the former is expected to keep its holiday release slot.

This was confirmed in a Disney press release previewing the second year of Disney+ programming, in which the company wrote: "With the first anniversary of Disney+ on November 12, the service will kick off its second year with even more original entertainment premiering in late 2020 including WandaVision, the upcoming original series from Marvel Studios."

When exactly WandaVision will be released in December may have been revealed by the release schedule of Disney+'s biggest show, The Mandalorian. After all, Disney+ is unlikely to want the two shows to steal thunder from each other. As such, WandaVision is unlikely to start on the streamer before The Mandalorian Season 2 ends.

The Star Wars spin-off series will begin on Disney+ on Friday, October 30, with episodes airing weekly as they did last year. As the season has eight episodes, it is expected to air until Friday, December 18.

Assuming that WandaVision also releases episodes on a Friday, this leaves only one Friday left in 2020: Christmas Day, Friday, December 25.

Though it seems unlikely the streamer will drop the show on Christmas Day itself, a release date that week could be likely. This would not be the first time that Disney+ has released moves around release days for its shows—The Mandalorian's first episode aired on a Tuesday (to match the launch date of Disney+), while Episode 7 moved to a Wednesday so it would not be released on the same day as The Rise of Skywalker.

However, there is some sign that the Marvel show could be coming earlier. The first trailer for WandaVision on the Marvel Indonesia YouTube page ended with a title card saying the show would come to Disney+ Hotstar Indonesia on October 30.

However, this trailer has since been removed (though not before it circulated on the Marvel Reddit) and changed with one that just says the show is "coming soon". This means that October 30 is a possible release date for WandaVision, though it seems highly unlikely that Mandalorian and this new show will air on the same day.

Filming on the show wrapped in March 2020, with some reshoots on the show beginning this September.

Though Disney has not confirmed the WandaVision release date yet, it is thought that they will soon. The next investor's call for the streamer is set for Wednesday, October 7, which is likely when an air date for the show will be announced.
