Two Police Officers Shot, One Killed in Bothell, Washington

One officer died and another injured in a shooting that took place while they were pursuing a suspect in Washington on Monday night.

The Bothell Police officers were shot during a chase after initiating a traffic stop on a black sedan along westbound State Route-522 at around 9:40 p.m. on July 13.

After a short pursuit, the vehicle struck a pedestrian, crashed through the center median and stopped in the 10300 block of Woodinville Drive before gunfire was exchanged. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

In a press conference, Bothell Police Captain Mike Johnson said one of the officers is dead and the other is in Harborview Medical Center being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The pedestrian hit by the suspect's vehicle was also taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

Johnson said they are not identifying either officer at this time.

Following a large-scale manhunt, the suspect accused of fatally shooting the Bothell Police Officer was found and taken into custody without incident at around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police said the suspect was located hiding on a rooftop near the scene. Police have not revealed what charges the suspect faces.

The investigation is being conducted by the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART). When the SMART investigation is complete, results will be forwarded to the Snohomish County Prosecutor's Office for review.

In a tweet, Bothell councilman Mason Thompson said: "I'm heartbroken about what's happening in Bothell tonight. My prayers are with the officers who have been shot and their families.

State representative and Councilmember Davina Duerr tweeted: "I am heartbroken for my community and our police officers who have been wounded. Please pray for Bothell."

The incident occurred on the same night six people were shot in Washington near a Metro bus stop in Kent, 30 miles from Bothell.

Kent Police were called just before 6 p.m. on Monday to 232nd and Pacific Highway South to assist with a Des Moines Police officer who located a shooting victim.

Officers arrived at the scene and found five other victims with gunshot wounds. Two of the victims are in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center, with three more in a serious condition. The sixth person suffered minor injuries.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
