Watch: First Trailer for 'Trainspotting 2' Has Landed

Twenty years after Trainspotting became a cult hit, Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle is shepherding Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud back to Edinburgh for more misadventures.

Sony Pictures released the first trailer for its sequel T2: Trainspotting early Thursday morning. Watch below:

The new film sees Ewan McGregor's Renton return to Edinburgh to be confronted by the friends he betrayed at the end of the first movie. "Choose life, choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and hope that someone somewhere cares," Renton narrates over the trailer; this alludes to the final scenes of the original Trainspotting where McGregor's character fled Scotland and left his addict friends behind to live a stable life.

Boyle's sequel also brings back Robert Carlyle as Begbie, Jonny Lee Miller as Sick Boy and Ewen Bremner as Spud. The script is again written by John Hodge and is based on author Irvine Welsh's novel Porno.

T2: Trainspotting is released in the U.K. on January 27.
