Where To Watch Biden Speech Today as Details Revealed of Syria Raid That Killed Al-Qurayshi

Joe Biden will address the American people on Thursday following a counterterrorism operation in Syria that killed Islamic State militant group's leader.

President Biden earlier announced the death of ISIS chief Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, and is later expected to provide more details about the operation.

Biden's address can be viewed on the White House's official YouTube page, where a video had already begun live streaming early Thursday morning.

He and Vice President Kamala Harris are scheduled to attend the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. at 8.30 a.m. E.T., the event the live stream was set up for.

That same live stream is available on the White House website.

Biden also will deliver remarks on the counterterrorism operation at 9.30a.m. E.T., the the White House said, and this should also be available to watch on both the White House website and official YouTube page.

His address is also likely to be carried by the major news networks.

Biden's Thursday statement said: "Last night at my direction, U.S. military forces in the northwest Syria successfully undertook a counterterrorism operation to protect the American people and our Allies, and make the world a safer place.

"Thanks to the skill and bravery of our Armed Forces, we have taken off the battlefield Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi—the leader of ISIS. All Americans have returned safely from the operation. I will deliver remarks to the American people later this morning. May God protect our troops."

Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby issued a statement early on Thursday about the raid, which took place in Syria's insurgent-held northwestern province of Idlib.

"U.S. Special Operations forces under the control of U.S. Central Command conducted a counterterrorism mission this evening in northwest Syria," Kirby said.

"The mission was successful. There were no U.S. casualties. More information will be provided as it becomes available," the statement went on.

Local reports had suggested that the raid had resulted in civilian casualties but that has not yet been confirmed. The president may offer a more detailed account of the event and whether civilians were harmed.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a U.K.-based office connected to Syria's exiled opposition, reported that the raid had taken place around midnight and bore similarities to the October 2019 raid that killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, founder of ISIS and al-Qurayshi's predecessor as leader of the group.

The news comes as the Biden administration is also involved in another major area of foreign policy—the ongoing tensions along the Russia-Ukraine border. The U.S. has warned that Russia intends to invade the country, but the Russian government has repeatedly denied this.
