Saturday Night Live has opened its new season with a bang, offering its take on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, with Matt Damon playing the part of the "beer bro" judge.
Damon made his debut as Kavanaugh on Saturday as the 44th season of the show opened, taking on the testimony that Kavanaugh before the Senate Judiciary Committee shortly after that offered by his accuser Christine Blasey Ford, who claims Kavanaugh attempted to sexually assault her while the pair were teenagers.
"Let me tell you this, I'm going to start at an 11… I'm going to take it to a 15 real quick," Damon shouted into the microphone as he played the role of the Supreme Court nominee.
"This is my speech. There are others like it but this is mine – I wrote it myself last night while screaming into an empty bag of Doritos," Damon continued.
"I am here tonight because of a sham… a political con job organised by the Clintons, George Soros, Kathy Griffin and Mr Ronan Sinatra. Now I am usually an optimist… I'm a keg is half full kind of guy," he said, alluding to Kavanaugh's frat boy past. " But what I've seen from the monsters on this committee makes me want to puke – and not from beer."
Alex Moffat, playing Chuck Grassley, said he was keeping a very open mind on Ford's testimony "and that is why I already voted yes for Kavanaugh before she said a word," before introducing the judge as "the hero."
Mocking the judge's calendars, Damon said: "Dr Ford has no evidence, none. Meanwhile I've got these. I've got these calendars," he said, his voice breaking into sobs. "These beautiful, creepy calendars."
"You just want to humiliate me in front of my wife, my parents, and Alyssa friggin' Milano," he continued, as a cardboard popup of the actress was waved behind him.
"Well guess what – I'm not backing down, you sons of bitches. I don't know the meaning of the word stop," he added, to laughter.
Responding to questions about whether he would support an FBI investigation into the claims, Damon's Kavanaugh mocked Kavanaugh's attempt to dodge the question.
"You want a real investigation… just look at my calendars," he said.
