How to Watch Nintendo's 'Super Mario Bros.' Movie Trailer Premiere

Nintendo will hold a special Nintendo Direct on Thursday, October 6, at 4:05 p.m. ET (1:05 p.m. PT) to showcase the premiere of the first Super Mario Bros. movie trailer.

The upcoming film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and the screenplay was written by Matthew Fogel, a writer known for Minions: The Rise of Gru and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

The movie first made headlines in September 2021, when it was revealed that Chris Pratt, known for roles in Parks and Recreation and the Jurassic World trilogy, would be taking up the mantle of everyone's favorite plumber dressed in red.

Pratt's casting has been questioned by a good part of the Mario community, with many posting memes about Pratt's Mario role on Twitter and others calling for movie directors to utilize more Italian actors for such roles.

Despite all of the backlash, though, Nintendo appears to be moving forward with the Super Mario Bros. movie. To help try to generate more hype surrounding it, the beloved game publisher will be holding a special Nintendo Direct this week to premiere the first trailer for the film.

The announcement was shared in a tweet from Nintendo of America, and it includes a uniquely-styled poster to go along with it. In the poster image, we can see Mario's back and several Toads and even Princess Peach's castle in the background.

It looks like Nintendo and Illumination are going for multiple animation styles within the movie, so it's possible it could offer some throwbacks to the various games released in the franchise over the past several decades.

This isn't the first time that Nintendo has tried to bring the iconic red plumber to the big screen. But, it is undoubtedly the one with the most effort behind it, as Nintendo has pulled in some big names to bring its characters to life in the Super Mario Bros. movie.

While Pratt will voice Mario, Jack Black will voice Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key will voice Toad (whether that's a specific Toad or all of them remains to be seen, though).

Other actors joining the project include Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Charlie Day as Mario's green-wearing brother, Luigi, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach.

Nintendo has yet to reveal any information about what the Super Mario Bros. movie will be about. But those hoping to get a first look at it should tune into Nintendo's YouTube at 4:05 p.m. ET on October 6 for the trailer's premiere.
