Watch Seth Meyers Call Out Trump Over DACA Repeal: President Has 'Again Proved Himself to Be a Liar'

President Donald Trump has again proved himself a liar, Seth Meyers told viewers on Tuesday's episode of NBC's Late Night, following news that Trump's administration will repeal the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA.

More than 800,000 people, often called DREAMers, who migrated to the U.S. as children and have been contributing members of society, face deportation because of the reversal. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the news on behalf of Trump Tuesday, prompting backlash across the country.

"To be clear, DACA recipients were brought here as children, have known no other country, pay taxes, have no criminal record, and are as American as anyone else living here," Meyers said, reacting to the news on his late-night program.

"This will shock you," he added with a hint of sarcasm. "With this decision today, Trump once again proved himself to be a liar after repeatedly assuring DREAMers that he would take care of them and treat them with heart." DACA recipients are often called DREAMers, after the DREAM act (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors), which offered many of the same protections but never passed Congress.

Meyers played various clips of Trump from earlier in 2017 promising that recipients of DACA refuge would protected.

"They shouldn't be very worried. We're going to take care of everybody," Trump said in a post-inauguration interview with ABC in January.

Earlier in January, as Meyers showed viewers, Trump said: "We love the DREAMers. We love everybody."

And in a February press conference, the president said, "We're going to show great heart."

The comedian said Trump "backed himself into a corner" by promising to repeal DACA as presidential candidate and is now facing pushback from his own party, because key GOP party members, including House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, urged him not to scrap the policy.

Meyers surmised: "So you have a president needlessly tormenting hundreds of thousands of Americans with a cruel and capricious policy that is supported neither by a majority of voters nor by the leader of his own party."
