'We Own This City': Release Date, Cast, Trailer and Plot

David Simon is returning to the city of Baltimore more than a decade after the end of The Wire, this time for a true crime drama about the Gun Trace Task Force (GTTF).

We Own This City is based on the real GTTF corruption scandal examined closely in Baltimore Sun journalist Justin Fenton's non-fiction book, which the show is named after.

Developed by Simon and his regular collaborative partner George Pelecanos, the duo brought back several members of The Wire's creative team, including some of its cast, for the new HBO show.

When is 'We Own This City' Out?

We Own This City will premiere on HBO on Monday, April 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, and it will air weekly on the channel.

The limited series has 6 episodes in total with the finale coming out on Monday, May 30.

Shows that are released on HBO are typically added to the channels streaming platform HBO Max within 24 hours of the time it airs on TV, so episodes of We Own This City are expected to be available to stream the day after its premiere date.

Who Will Star In 'We Own This City'?

We Own This City is led by Jon Bernthal who takes on the role of former Sergeant Wayne Jenkins, one of the leaders of the GTTF.

Joining Bernthal are The Wire alumni Jamie Hector and Darrell Britt-Gibson, who portray homicide detective Sean Suiter and GTTF officer Jemell Rayam, respectively.

Loki star Wunmi Mosaku appears in the show as Nicole Steele, an attorney who is part of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice.

Other cast members portraying officers in the GTTF include McKinley Belcher III as Momodu "G-Money" Gondo, Josh Charles as Daniel Hersl, and Rob Brown as Maurice Ward.

Dagmara Domińczyk also plays Erika Jensen, the FBI agent who was assigned the case of investigating the GTTF.

What Will 'We Own This City' Be About?

We Own This City focuses on the rise and fall of the GTTF, a plain-clothed police unit that aimed to target known criminals who they believed were selling guns and drugs in the city of Baltimore.

A two-year federal investigation into the group revealed in 2017 that members of the GTTF would steal money, plant evidence, and even resell the drugs they seized back onto the streets.

The show will examine the investigation into the GTTF and it will also pay particular attention to former Sergeant Wayne Jenkins, showing him from his early days as a rookie cop to his time in the GTTF that led to his arrest and eventual conviction.
