What Boney Kapoor Said After Sridevi's Funeral: Bollywood Legend's Husband Pens Emotional Open Letter to 'Irreplaceable' Wife, Mother

Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor mourned the death of his wife, superstar actor Sridevi Kapoor, in an emotional letter posted on her Twitter page Wednesday.

Sridevi, who was generally referred to by only her first name, was cremated Wednesday in Mumbai, just four days after she drowned in her bathtub in Dubai. She was 54.

“Losing a friend, wife and mother of your two daughters is a loss inexplicable in words,” Kapoor wrote.

The producer paid tribute to his late wife’s acting talent, saying, “To the world she was their Chandni.” In Hindi, chandni means moonlight. Chandni is also the title of one of Sridevi’s most enduring films.

“But to me she was my love, my friend, mother to our girls… my partner,” Kapoor continued. “To our daughters, she was everything... their life. She was the axis around which our family ran.”

Kapoor thanked fans, family and friends for rallying around him and the couple’s two daughters, Khushi and Janvhi.

Kapoor wrote: “As we bid goodbye to my beloved wife and Khushi & Janhvi’s mama, I have a sincere request. Please respect our need to grieve privately. If you need to talk of Sri, let it be of the special memories that connect each of you to her. She was and is an actor that is irreplaceable. Love and respect her for that. The curtains never come down on an actor’s life, because they shine on the silver screen forever.”

“My only concern at this time is to protect my daughters and find a way to move forward without Sri. She was our life, our strength and the reason we always smiled. We love her beyond measure,” the producer said.

Kapoor concluded the letter: Rest in peace my love. Our lives will never be the same again.”

Thousands of mourners attended Sridevi’s funeral in Mumbai, including Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachan and Aishwarya Rai.
