Where Donald, Joe, Melania and Kamala Land on America's Top Baby Names List in 2020

Donald Trump is the current President of the United States, but it may not stay that way for long. As of Friday, Trump's chances are retaining the Commander in Chief position seemed to be falling at the hands of opponent former Vice President Joe Biden.

While America is clearly torn between the two candidates, both apparently have popular baby names across America, whether they're directly inspired or not.

Names Donald and Melania have both had their moments of popularity throughout the Trump administration, and now, the ultra-classic name Joseph is also holding steady as one of the most popular baby names of 2019. There's no current data on the popularity in 2020, given babies born in November and December have yet to be registered with the Social Security Administration.

Out of the three names, Joseph is the highest-ranked baby name according to the Social Security Administration's (SSA) baby name records. In 2019, the last recorded data by the SSA, Joseph was ranked the 24th most popular baby name in America.

Joseph comes from Hebrew origin, and the name apparently means "God Will Increase" according to babynames.com.

The name's popularity has fallen dramatically, though. Joseph has been on the list since 2000 when it was ranked the eighth most popular name. The abbreviated name "Joe" isn't nearly as beloved, ranking 705th in 2019.

The name Donald has a similar trend. In 2000, Donald, which means "World Leader" from its Scottish origin, was the 217th most popular baby name. In 2019, though, it was listed as the 553rd most popular name. There was a slight increase in the name's popularity between 2016 and 2017, right after Trump took office. From 2017 to 2018, though, the name fell 41 places.

Around the time Trump took office, the name Melania also had a boom in interest. In 2017 Melania made the list of the top 1000 most popular baby names and was ranked 993rd. In total, 283 female children were named Melania that year. The name hasn't made the list any other time, which implies the popularity has since fallen.

Claims that the name Ivanka, the name of Trump's beloved daughter and Advisor to the President, was also popular during Trump's time in office exist, too. Apparently, using the name Ivanka increased by 362 percent, Refinery 29 reported with the SSA data in 2018. Ivanka still isn't listed on the SSA website, though, as the name has yet to make the top 1,000 names in any year.

As Biden's possible takeover begins, the name Kamala (inspired by his Vice President pick Kamala Harris) has already started to grow in popularity. It's been used 104 percent more times than in the past, according to the Miami Herald, though Kamala still isn't on the top 1,000 most popular baby names list provided by the SSA.
