Gold Cup 2019: How to Watch USMNT Vs. Guyana Live Stream, TV Channel, Odds

The U.S. men's national team (USMNT) begins its Gold Cup campaign when it takes on Guyana in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Tuesday.

The defending champions might be playing at home but optimism is at a premium ahead of their tournament opener after defeats in friendlies against Jamaica and Venezuela.

The fact the U.S. has not played a competitive match in 20 months since failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup only adds pressure on Gregg Berhalter.

The latter only took charge of USMNT in December and has had limited time to shape his team according to his philosophy. Berhalter also has to deal with injury problems, with midfielder Tyler Adams ruled out for the tournament with a groin injury, while defenders DeAndre Yedlin and John Brooks will also miss the Gold Cup.

Speaking ahead of his team's debut, the 45-year-old suggested there was no room for excuses.

"We've been working towards developing a starting XI for the last week, and we're pretty much there," he said at USMNT's pre-match news conference. "I think the focus, not just from the guys who are projected to be starters, but from the whole group has been really good. I like the attitude of the players."

Guyana will be making its Gold Cup debut on Tuesday and are one of the weakest teams in the competition on paper, but Berhalter warned his team against underestimating the Golden Jaguars.

"I think any type of opponent can be dangerous. That's the game," he explained. "I firmly believe that on any given day 11 players can beat another 11 players. We don't take this opponent for granted."

Here's everything you need to know ahead of Tuesday.
