Which NFL Teams Have Best Betting Odds to Sign Ex-Carolina Panther Cam Newton?

The Carolina Panthers released quarterback Cam Newton on Tuesday, and a number of sports books have released betting odds for which team will sign him before the 2020-21 NFL season starts.

The former No. 1 overall draft pick spent nine years with the Panthers but was let go with just one year remaining on his contract. Just a few days ago, the Panthers signed former New Orleans Saints' backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, paving the way for Newton's release.

Below are some of the teams with the best odds to sign Newton, according to sports books FanDuel, DraftKings and SportsLine.

Jacksonville Jaguars

After trading quarterback Nick Foles to the Chicago Bears, the Jaguars are left with sophomore quarterback Gardner Minshew. Minshew played well during last season, throwing for 21 touchdowns and six interceptions, but the Jaguars may want to move in a different direction and sign a veteran quarterback like Newton. The betting odds for the Jaguars to sign Newton are listed below.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins have struggled greatly at the quarterback position, moving from Josh Rosen to Ryan Fitzpatrick last season. During the current offseason, the Dolphins have been aggressive, signing players like cornerback Byron Jones and linebacker Kyle Van Noy. Adding a former MVP like Newton could help the team improve on its dismal 2019 season. The betting odds for the Dolphins to sign Newton are listed below.

New England Patriots

Following the departure of longtime Patriot Tom Brady, many have speculated that the team could be interested in signing Newton. The Patriots recently added veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer, but they may be interested in pairing Newton and head coach Bill Belichick. Belichick would have to alter his game plan, since he is not used to a mobile quarterback like Newton, but a former MVP and a six-time Super Bowl–winning head coach could be a lethal duo. The betting odds for the Patriots to sign Newton are listed below.

Los Angeles Chargers

Before his release, the Chargers rejected a trade for Newton, but sports books are still placing the team in the running to sign the quarterback. After the Chargers missed out on signing Tom Brady, they said they would be moving forward with Tyrod Taylor as their quarterback. While it may seem unlikely that the Chargers would sign Newton, they could be interested in a scenario similar to what the Jaguars might do, where they could play Taylor until Newton fully recovers from his foot injury. The Chargers would also give Newton the best deep ball threats with wide receivers like Mike Williams, Keenan Allen and tight end Hunter Henry. The betting odds for the Chargers to sign Newton are listed below.

Denver Broncos

Like the Jaguars and Dolphins, the Broncos have struggled at the quarterback position. After bouncing between three different quarterbacks last season, they finished the year with Drew Lock under center. While Broncos General Manager John Elway has said he plans to build his offense around Lock, the option to sign a veteran quarterback like Newton could always be enticing. The betting odds for the Broncos to sign Newton are listed below.
