Philadelphia officials have announced an arrest in the case of missing 23-year-old Kada Scott, who disappeared almost two weeks ago.

Keon King is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping and recklessly endangering another person, Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski announced at a news conference on Wednesday.

Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore said King turned himself in to police on Tuesday.

The Context

According to Toczylowski, King is believed to be the last known person in contact with Scott before she went missing. She said their relationship and how long they knew each other remained under investigation.

Toczylowski said King had faced another kidnapping charge earlier this year, but the case was withdrawn after the alleged victim failed to appear in court. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office has since refiled those charges.

“This is a pattern of behavior,” Vanore said at the news conference.

What To Know

Scott was last seen by her mother on October 4 as she left for work at a nearby nursing home, ABC News reported. She arrived at the facility but left before her shift ended, and her vehicle was found abandoned at her workplace, the outlet said.

“In the days leading up to her disappearance, Ms. Scott related to her family and friends that an unknown individual or person had been harassing her via phone,” Philadelphia Police Captain John Craig said during a news conference last week.

Scott is described as 5-foot-6, weighing 120 pounds with a thin build. She has brown eyes and black hair.

On Wednesday, the investigation led law enforcement to the abandoned Ada H. Lewis Middle School, where they discovered physical evidence tying Scott to the scene, NBC10 reported. Police also found King’s vehicle abandoned in the Gypsy Lane Condominiums parking lot, the outlet reported.

King also has multiple traffic violations on record and an open DUI case, the outlet reported.

What People Are Saying

Philadelphia Police First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford said at a news conference on Wednesday: “We are still treating this as if Ms. Scott is still alive, and that’s why we want the public’s help in trying to locate every single piece of this.”

Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski said of Keon King at the news conference: “All roads at this point lead to him, and so that’s what we’re hoping leads us to her.”

What Happens Next

Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information to contact the Philadelphia Police Department tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or contact the Homicide Division directly.

Scott’s family launched a GoFundMe fundraising campaign to support ongoing search efforts and raise public awareness. Over $7,800 has been collected so far.
