Who is Jonghyun's Sister Kim Sodam? SHINee Singer Posted Cryptic Lyrics on Instagram Before Apparent Suicide

SHINee singer Jonghyun sent his final farewell to his sister, Kim Sodam, before his apparent suicide Monday, according to South Korean news agency Yonhap. While some fans wanted to know more about the star's sibling, there wasn't much information about her immediately available.

Authorities found Jonghyun unconscious in his hotel room after Sodam filed a police report. She was concerned for her brother's safety after he sent her a series of worrisome text messages, which said: "Please let me go. Tell me I did well. Final farewell."

Authorities are investigating Jonghyun's death as a possible suicide since burned coal briquettes were found in a frying pan, the BBC reported. They emanate carbon monoxide when they are heated.

The K-pop star hinted last month that he was struggling in an Instagram post that contained cryptic lyrics. He shared lines from the Dear Cloud song "Beside You."

Jonghyun, who is also known as Kim Jong-hyun, captioned the post, "I pray you aren't hurting."

Koreaboo translated the lyrics, which read: "I had a thought while curling up in a dark room alone/ When you might regret letting go of everyone. Have the sighs and the restless wounds stopped by now. I pray only that you aren't hurting. I hope only that you will be happy. Please don't try to be alone in the darkness/ Don't torture yourself/ Don't torture you."

Jonghyun's final post was liked more than 346,000 times by his 2.1 million followers. Thousands more wrote "rest in peace" on his last Instagram message.

SM Entertainment, the music company that represents SHINee, issued a statement where they said they were heartbroken over Jonghyun's untimely death.

"We are sorry to be the bringer of such tragic, heart-breaking news," the statement from the South Korean entertainment company, which represents the K-pop group, wrote in a press release on Monday, according to Koreaboo.

"On December 18th, SHINee's Jonghyun left us very suddenly. He was discovered unconscious at a residence in Chungdam-Dong, Seoul and was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead. Our sadness cannot compare to the pain of his family, who had to say goodbye to a son and a brother. But we have spent a long time with him, and SHINee members and SM Entertainment staff are all in deep mourning and shock," the statement finished.

His exact age wasn't immediately known, but Jonghyun was in his late 20s.

Sodam did not immediately issue a statement.
