Donald Trump Jr.’s wife, Vanessa Trump, filed for divorce from President Donald Trump’s eldest son late Thursday in Manhattan Supreme Court, as first reported by the New York Post.

Vanessa Trump filed for an uncontested proceeding, which means she doesn’t expect to go to court over their five kids and assets, reported the tabloid, which earlier put out a story stating they had marital issues stemming from his controversial tweets and frequent travels.

The couple was married in November 2005 at now-President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Their relationship may have gotten off to a somewhat rocky start, however. Vanessa Trump reportedly called Trump Jr. “the one with the retarded dad” after meeting him at a fashion show in 2003.

Born Vanessa Haydon, the now 40-year-old's first exposure to the media spotlight was in the late 1990s, after reports that she was dating actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

While, like his father's, many of Trump Jr.’s tweets have been controversial, he recently tweeted concern for his wife receiving an envelope with a suspicious substance, which led to her being hospitalized.

While other members of the Trump family, namely the president's daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, have taken up official positions in the White House, Trump Jr. has, along with his brother Eric, been running the Trump Organization. Rather than the White House, the family lives on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

Still, Trump Jr. has become embroiled in the political turmoil of the Trump administration, particularly over the investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

Trump Jr.'s taking part in a meeting at Trump Tower with a Kremlin-linked lawyer has reportedly become a focus of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe.
