Why Are Kim and Kourtney Kardashian Fighting? An Explainer

Much of the drama on E!'s hit reality series Keeping Up With the Kardashians may feel manufactured at times, but the ongoing feud between its sibling stars, Kim Kardashian West and Kourtney Kardashian, feels anything but fake.

Fans who tuned into the popular series Sunday witnessed the sisters engage in a verbal altercation as their younger sister, Khloé Kardashian, and mother Kris Jenner were present. The argument stemmed from the eldest Kardashian sibling being disinterested in the planning of their family's annual Christmas card. The disagreement over the scheduling ultimately turned into an ugly attack on the PrettyLittleThing designer's work ethic.

"I'm not here to be mistreated by my f***ing b***h family. Kim saying that I'm the least interesting to look at—who even speaks like that? You don't say things like that," a teary-eyed Kardashian, 39, said on Sunday's episode on a call with Khloé. "You guys just have really different values than me. I choose to be a mother to my three kids. I'm not here looking for another job. I already work enough—more than I would like to."

Kardashian West was present for Kardashian's phone call as well. "You do whatever the f**k you want to do and you don't do s**t, so be accommodating to the people that actually do s**t," she spat.

During the episode's Sunday premiere, the pair took their feud to Twitter. While the reason for their drama seems overly dramatic, the origins can be traced back to a 2013 episode of Kourtney & Kim Take Miami. At the time, Kardashian engaged in a similar fight that involved Kardashian West and her best friend, Jonathan Cheban.

Instead of a family photo shoot, the 2013 argument centered around Kardashian not wanting to participate in a business project with her sisters. "You took two months off for the baby," Kardashian, 37, told her older sister. "Are you going to wait until she's like 20 until you get back to work? Khloé and I can't keep on working for you and splitting it with you."

The eldest Kardashian said she'd "love" to be with her children instead of working again. With this comment, Cheban joked: "Hasn't she been pregnant for like four years?" This resulted in Cheban and Kardashian exchanging all-out war filled with harsh remarks about their work ethics and how they take advantage of Kardashian West's financial resources.

The argument ended, however, with Kardashian slapping Cheban across the face after he made a low blow about her love life and how she makes a living.

"My job is not collecting Kim's money as it falls out of her ass. Without Kim you'd be nothing. All you'd be doing is chasing Scott [Disick] in nightclubs every night," Cheban, 44, said at the time. "I don't know who told you that you're the queen of this castle that you don't need to work. [Kardashian West] has been working for 365 days a year, while you've been pregnant and doing nothing."

He dug deeper with his insult, adding: "Scott's never going to marry you, you f***ing b***h."

By jumping forward to 2018, Cheban and Kardashian put aside their differences. Kardashian West and Kardashian, however, have yet to do so apparently.

During Sunday's episode, the beauty mogul maintained that the dynamic trio is "GOOD." Prior to this, Kardashian suggested that her issues with both Kardashian West and the Good American designer are "ongoing." She said the feud has allowed her to grow closer to younger sister Kendall Jenner.

"We're just like really best friends," Kardashian told E! Online on Friday. "We're on the same wavelength. Like we like the same stuff, we like to do the same stuff. We have good conversations, we have fun together [an] there's no drama with us. Kendall has my back in this season. You'll see."
