Will Donald Get a Present From Melania After Snubbing Her Birthday or Is It Payback Time?

What do you buy a billionaire president for his birthday? As President Donald Trump blows out 72 candles on Thursday, the answer may be "nothing"—that is if his wife Melania Trump has any taste for payback.

Beginning his birthday celebrations in Singapore, where he was served cake and lobster to celebrate, the president is likely to enjoy numerous wishes and gifts, while past birthday celebrations have seen extravagant celebrations including performers and a 15-foot rocket ship.

But in comparison with Trump's previous celebrations, the first lady's birthday seems to have been something of a low-key affair, with her husband admitting he "didn't get her so much" because he'd been a little too busy to go out shopping for presents.

"Well, I better not get into that because I may get in trouble. Maybe I didn't get her so much," Trump said back in April, when he was asked what he got the first lady to celebrate her 48th birthday, Sky News reported.

He added that he had bought Melania a "beautiful card and some beautiful flowers," explaining: "You know, I'm very busy to be running out looking for presents, OK?"

The president also conspicuously had not used his Twitter platform to wish his wife a happy birthday either, although he did do so in 2017, when he posted a picture of him and Melania waving to crowds, alongside the caption: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our @FLOTUS, Melania!"

The first lady has been out of the spotlight in recent weeks, following a kidney operation that saw her fail to make any public appearances for more than 24 days, leading to speculation on her whereabouts.

When she did appear alongside Trump at a White House event honouring gold star families, the president made an awkward joke about his wife leaving him as she made her first public appearance since being discharged from hospital.
